Modi Govt's failures

Many Fronts that Modi Govt is Failing

Introduction

Indian polity of late, has become an article of joke…both on the sides of Modi Govt as well as their opponents…the latter being more glaring one. Surely, Modi Govt is doing a lot for the benefit and upliftment for both the Nation as well as the nationals (read “What makes Modi so Special for India”, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/what-makes-modi-so-special-for-india/). There is no doubt whatsoever that he is on his path to transform India towards its betterment. Even his opponents acknowledge it because there is hardly any major issues before them to put the govt in dock. In the absence of such issues, they are wasting time, effort and money on non-issues like Ambedkar-Ambedkar-Ambedkar or earlier, they stalled the winter session of Parliament on another non-issue of the US court issuing arrest warrant against Adani. By and large, all parliament sessions stalled by Congress or its notorious alliance called I.N.D.I.A have been on non-Issues. What a loss for the vibrant Indian democracy that in spite of numerous important outstanding issues being ignored by Modi Govt, opposition political parties are beating around the bushes.

Major Issues on Which Modi Govt is Failing or lagging behind

The major issues where Govts as a whole (whether at Union or States) have been failing, include corruptions in States, Deteriorating Social & religious harmony, rising anti-national activities, rising population, deteriorating religious demography of Hindus, inadequate jobs in Govt services, inability to provide Social Security, some of the contentious matters relating to Foreign Affairs and numerous others…be it Industries, Agriculture, control of recurrent calamities, large influx of illegal migrants and so on.

Corruptions. Transparency International (TI) although not a transparent agency, has ranked India at 95thin 2013-14 among 175 nations. It is unfortunate that remains unchanged even today despite no corruption charges levelled against Modi Govt in his 11 yrs. It’s no mean achievement. Never since independence, any union govt remained scam-free. It is noteworthy though that 10 yrs of UPA govt was known for raining scams. They were infamous for committing A-Z of scams in their time; a sharp contrast what Modi govt has been known in last 11 yrs. Surely, TI is showing its highly biased and ugly face in doing so. It is no secret though, that many constituents of the NDA govt were believed to be highly corrupt before joining Modi Govt (read “ नेताओं के भ्रष्टाचार: वाशिंग मशीन की सफाई चाहिए या ED की मार ?”, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/corrupt-politicians-bjp-washing-machine-ed-jailing/). It is another fact though that for such few corrupt leaders, there is no congenial environment for indulging in corruptions in a by and large clean Modi Govt. Of course, majority of State govts are known to maintain their corruption rating…be it Karnataka, Maharashtra, Bihar, Punjab, Telangala/AP or some others (read “Chors & Thugs in Indian Polity”, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/chors-and-thugs-in-indian-polity/). Details of ‘Thuggery’ in various govts of India have also been elaborated elsewhere (read “I-N-D-I-A of Thugs (parts 1, 2 & 3)”, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/i-n-d-i-a-of-thugs-part-1/https://thecounterviews.in/articles/i-n-d-i-a-of-thugs-part-2/; and https://thecounterviews.in/articles/i-n-d-i-a-of-thugs-part-3/) although there have been marginal transparency with their govt services gradually becoming online/digital. PM Modi and his govt must be knowing that if Indian dream of “Viksit Bharat” has to be realized, corruptions must be rooted out from the states too. Although, cleanliness of governance is ‘State’ subject, the Union Govt will have to find a means to compel all state govts to be clean in their financial dealings. If not, it will be a collective failure of all.

Deteriorating Social & Religious harmony. Social and Religious Harmony in the nation has continuously been deteriorating over decades. The major bone of contentions have been (a) alteration in the religious demography in the nation at the cost of Hindus; (b) various riots indulged upon by Muslims to which Hindus have retaliated; (c) entry of illegal Muslim migrants from Bangladesh; (d) Jihadi intent of Muslims (be it ‘love jihad, vote jihad, nationalism jihad, Gazva-e-Hind etc etc); (e) Muslim occupation of many revered places of Hindu temples. They have started committing atrocities upon non-Muslims in the geographical areas of their numerous dominance amounting to genocides…be it J&K, West Bengal, Kerala and some other states.

In the recent decades, Muslims have started public display of their expansionism thru’ occupation of public & private lands in the name of Waqf, forcing the Hindus to flee from the pockets of their numerical dominance and practicing radical Islam on the call given by Al-Baghdadi for a greater Islamic Caliphate. By now there are dozens of jihadi organisations proliferated in India too that have started threatening Hindus in those pockets. These acts have become sticking points especially after Hindus have started questioning their acts as well as ‘Muslim vote bank politics” by many political parties (read “Growing Religious Discords in India (part-1)”, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/growing-religious-discord-in-india-part-1/).

Social discrimination of the weaker sections of people have been inherent in India from the Vedic period. This discrimination was exploited during the Islamic rules to divide the Hindu Society in the names of caste/class which continued in the period of British rule too. In independent India to Nehru-dictated Indian Constitution did err in legalizing the caste-based discrimination. Implementation of Mandal Commission in 1990 deepened the inter-caste divisions in India leading to numerous protests. On the other hand, Nehru ji sowed the seeds of ‘Muslim Vote-bank Politics” that has acquired dangerous proportions by now. Events taking places in the name of ‘Radical Islam’ in the middle east, proliferated the number of Jihadist organisations the world over with India being involved too. Further, a despicable ‘Religious Freedom’ in the fundamental rights that disturbs the religious demography of States, has been fueling the fire. Today’s India is its victim. Foreign funds are flowing into Indian ‘so-called NGOs’ for nefarious conversion of Hindus for allurement and threats. Even Indian Govt and Supreme Court of India have shown their indifference to it (read “Gross Fundamental Rights Violations in Many Verses of Quran”, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/gross-fundamental-rights-violations-in-many-verses-of-quran/). On one hand where Indian Muslims react and protest against some atrocities caused to them elsewhere in the world, they celebrated the genocides of Hindus/Sikhs by Taliban in Afghanistan and by different Salafi Jihadist groups in Pakistan. Worse, UN Human Rights Organisation remained indifferent to it (read “Muted Human Rights Response Encourage Islamic genocides”, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/muted-unhrc-response-encouraging-islamic-genocide/).

Rising Anti-national Activities. From the 2nd term of Modi Govt in 2019, anti-national activities by some sections of people as well as some of the political parties have sharply risen. Some call it their frustations but others waste no time in pointing fingers at the Union Govt for their tolerance against such acts. In the beginning of Modi’s second term itself, widespread Shaheenbagh protests erupted in many cities that caught the Home Minister Amit Shah unprepared, unaware how to deal with it. In fact, it was the outcome of collective unease of the Muslims of India against CAA-NRC-Art 370-Ram Mandir-3-Talaq along with some others that the opposition politicians could disturb the communal harmony to the fullest. Sonia & Priyanka Gandhi have been quoted as initiating the protest when they called “Sadak par aa jao”. Home minister’s relative inaction gave the opposition political parties a confidence that they can paralyse the nation yet escape unscratched. Those inactions of the govt also played some role in Delhi riots. Rahul Gandhi uttered many unsubstantiated allegations against Indian Army that it was made an evidence by Pakistan at the UNHRC to malign India.

Those massive protests were followed by Punjab-Haryana Farmer’s massive agitations in which pictures of Khaistanis, anti-national Tukde-Tukde gang etc were displayed. It is believed that the protest was liberally funded by some anti-India forces. All these were followed in quick succession by Congress protest against ED-CBI questioning Sonia Gandhi and soon followed by disruptive activities against Armed Forces Agniveer Scheme when Congress and RJD workers indulged in unprecedented arson and violence, burning some trains too. Again Modi Govt was unable to tackle the unrest effectively. Emboldened by these inactions, Rahul Gandhi even endulged in many anti-national rants allegations such as China has grabbed 40000 km of Indian land under Modi, Indian Army is being beaten by the Chinese, pleading foreign govts to act against Modi in saving Indian Democracy, Mani Shankar Aiyyar pleading Pakistan to help overthrow Modi…etc etc. Some rich foreign nationals openly pledged billion of dollars to Indian political parties to unseat Modi Govt (read “I-N-D-I-A a recipient of anti-India funds” https://thecounterviews.in/articles/i-n-d-i-a-recipient-of-anti-india-funds/). Some other anti-India forces such as Khalistanis, Jihadists or other radical groups too were indulgent. This was the time period that Rahul Gandhi indulged freely in political Lies & Dis-information that adversely affected the functioning and image of the Indian Govt both within and abroad. Such long stretches of anarchy in India was called by some powerhouses abroad as vibrant democracy whereas Indian nationalists called it a failure of Law & order machinery. Muslims of Jaipur, Delhi, Bengal and Bihar also indulged in arson and violence on the religious occasion of Ram Navmi in the opposition ruled States. The Hindu majority must be praised not to have retaliated by taking law in their hands.

Rising Population. Indian govt under PM Modi despite being in majority, failed the nation not to have passed a bill to control population rise. In this case, BJP-led NDA should not be criticized alone because whenever any talk of population control arises in nation, Muslims and Muslim-appeasing political parties see it red. They feel that Islamic jihad thru’ rise in their population is one of the easier way to change the religious demography thru’ Jihad-ud-Dawa’, a sinister means of “Convert, Flee or Die” being practiced since Mudammed’s (whom Muslims call prophet) time. In India, we see a perfect example of it and they must be thanking both Nehru and Ambedkar to have made a provision of the so-called ‘religious freedom’ under which, they are changing religious demography. There was a time under Mrs Indira Gandhi when population control thru’ “Hum Do, hamare Do” was made a voluntary approach in which Muslims didn’t participate and thus it became a perfect way to change religious demography that Hindus suffered. Now the moment Modi govt talks of population control, Muslim-appeasing political party oppose it tooth & nails. Modi Govt can still regulate and manage the religious demography thru’ two means. Firstly, by enacting a law forbidding change in religious demography and secondly, by making India “a Hindu or Indian Religion State” (read “If there could be 47 Islamic, 16 Christian, 3 Buddhist and 1 Jew State, why not a Hindu Rashtra?”, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/if-world-can-have-islamic-christian-nations-why-not-hindu-rashtra/). There were speculations during Modi 2.0 that population control bill could be introduced but that was not to be. India can only hope that good sense prevails among politicians to enact this law.

Falling religious demography of Hindus. Fall in Hindu religious demography in India has been scary with the trend for Hindus showing continuous decline with proportionate rise in Muslim population. India is secular only because Hindus are in majority. The day Hindus become minority, Sharia law will be enforced sooner or later with ensuing atrocities of the religious minorities (that we see in Islamic nations). From the table below, it is apparent that census for Muslim has been erroneous because a large number of Bangladeshis (Muslims>>>>Hindus) had officially moved into India before 1971 war and secondly, there were large flux of illegal migrant Bangladeshis (of the tune of approx. 4-5 Cr) that doesn’t find reflection. It is also apparent that like in Delhi, some state govts have provided them fake citizenship based on fake documents. Population percentage of all other communities are by and large showing a constant trend with slight exception for the Jains which has declined.

There is no reason to believe the above figure because the decadal population growth rates of Muslims have remained persistently approx. 50% higher than Hindus as published by Census India 2011 (shown below).

Decadal Growth rate in Indian population Hindu vs Muslim

Covid19 prevented timely census in 2021. However, applying the decadal growth rate thru’ regression equation and adding up the illegal Bangladeshi & Rohingya Muslims acquiring fake citizenship (if the officials are able to record it properly), percentage population will show a jump in the coming census…of approx. 77% for Hindus and nearly 17% for the Muslims. This will surely become a major talking point for the Hindus as to how to prevent fall in Hindu religious demography in India. India being the only nation where Hindus originated and live as native, govt will surely have to enact law to safeguard them from being extinct. If not, it will surely be levelled as the worst collective failure of Modi Govt.

Inadequate Jobs in Govt Sector. The number of jobs in various Govt Services, both at the Centre and States, have remained static for nearly 4 decades or so. On the other hand, the spurt in population for the reasons mentioned above, have further doomed the prospects of employments. Thanks to the private and un-organised sectors that did provide relief. Modi govt has also created better prospects for the self-employent thru’ various schemes, be it MUDRA loans, Start-up India, Stand-up India as well as some others. The text box below shows how the self-employment schemes brought motion to the Indian economy.

Unemployment in India

Modi Govt has failed in convincing the job seekers that the entire Indian population cannot be given govt job in largely a socialist nation. Further, providing jobs (Govt or private), is not the prerogative of the Union Govt alone. State Govts too will have to shoulder the responsibilities but they are not; and Union Govt apparently has no executive/legal powers to hold them culpable (read “ विपक्षी राज्य सरकारें निकम्मी हैं; मोदी सबको रोजगार दे”, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/incompetent-opposition-ruled-state-govt-modi-to-give-employment/). While opposition parties have right to cry foul on each and every problems they face, all Union Govts of past have failed to hold the States culpable of their inactions. Their work force widely migrate to the other parts of the nation for their livelihood thru’ petty jobs and meagre earnings.

Although creating jobs at the state levels are the State subjects, hand-holding is the least that the Union Govt should be able to do. PM Modi keeps boasting at all major national and international platforms that the present era belongs to India and its youths for opportunity abroad and has created scopes for skilling them too, but could have done more to create an exclusive govt Dept to enable the large numbers of skilled youth to get jobs abroad. Besides, there are various scopes of enhancing job-prospects in India too BUT both Finance and Agriculture ministers in the Union Govt are indifferent towards providing jobs to all Indians (read “Employment for all Indians: A Possibility”, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/employment-for-all-indians-a-possibility/). India is still an Agri-based nation and hence, there is a vast scope for boosting productivity thru’ rural based economy. Modi govt has provided ‘Kisan Samman’ free cash to all farmers BUT failed to incentivize the State Govts to work out a strategy to boost their productivity as mooted in the article quoted above.

Whatever various States and Union Govts do to provide jobs to the nationals, it will still be inadequate if those jobs are ‘stolen’ by illegal foreigner migrants namely Bangladeshis and the Rohingyas. They are not the sole culprits. Some Indian nationals too collude with them to provide them documents for fake nationalities both for financial greed and ideology-based assistance. There are numerous anti-nationals sheltering them for varied reasons that range from ‘vote-bank politics’ to ‘population jihad’. It is highly unfortunate but true (read “नकली आधार' आधारित समस्याएँ और उसका समाधान”, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/fake-aadhar-card-fake-voters/).

Inability to Incentivise Self Employment. Both Union and State Govts have failed to make the numerous on-going self employment schemes a lucrative prospect that can be done easily. For this, the Union and State Govts have to link their ‘Social Security Schemes’ to the beneficiaries of Self-Employment Schemes and sensitise both service provider and customers for a mutual cooperation. Financing various Self-Employment Schemes are already addressed thru’ various banks. Only an additional push by the Govts can link them all with Social Security thru’ pensionary benefit to all such as “Atal Pension Yojna”. This is a very small effort that can reduce the long queues for handful Govt jobs. It is also true that all Union and State Govts in past many decades have failed to sensitise the unemployed and youths in their schools, colleges, technical educations and professional institutions to realise the fact that all cannot be provided govts jobs and prepare themselves for self-employments. Present Govt has created skill training centres and easy bank loans for starting own ventures of commensurate capitals and build upon it. Presently, the opposition politicians are exploiting youths to create problems by false promises of providing govt jobs. This must end. The day one youth is out of educational institution, he/she should be able to start own ventures and not wait endlessly for a govt job. If the govt is failing in not enabling that unemployed youth to start own venture, it is a failure…and all such failures should find the voice of the opposition whether in the Union or the State Govts.

Govt Failures in Foreign Relations. Most Union Govts of past have either failed or at least, lagged behind in having an ‘India Centric Policy’. Hardly any developed nation took India seriously since its freedom mainly because of both fragility of its polity as well as economy. Despite the Economy being opened up in late 80s, the second most populous nation remained at distant 11th position in GDP as a ‘Fragile Five’ in the year 2014. It was the Modi Govt which took-up the challenge of making India strong thru’ Economic betterment. It is his composite effort that the nation is the 4th largest economy in the world and aspiring to become third by 2029. Today world takes note of what India says. India has become a prominent figure in the international arena. However, amidst the rising status in foreign relations, there are rising woes as well. It is principally on two accounts; namely the increasing interference from China and secondly, India caught up in its age-old policy of support to Muslim nations from where modern Islamic terrorism are emanating.

After China became the second largest economy, it has been investing lavishly for its own growth as well as alluring the poorer nations that easily become its political subordinates. India is surrounded on three sides by adversaries who harbour nefarious intent towards it. It includes China itself along with Pakistan. Now a religiously radical Bangladesh too has joined them (read “Indian Relations with Radical State of Bangladesh”, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/indian-relations-with-radical-state-of-bangladesh/). In addition, China has been pumping plenty of money in Nepal right since late 1980s so as to use them against India. Unfortunately, successive Communist govts of Nepal failed to notice the elephant in the dark room (read “Nepal Falls from Grace”, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/nepal-sovereignty-grace-china-communist-oli-yanqui-debt-trap-everest/). Besides, the Chinese have invested large sum of finances in Srilanka (Hambantota), Sychelis and Maldeev. Most of them are under Chinese ‘Debt Trap’. As a result of all these, some of India’s own neighbors are not much friendly. Although most of the ill doings have been in the times of Congress party at the Centre, Modi Govt cannot shrug-off the composite liabilities (read “Reversals in Indian Foreign Policies in Neighborhood”, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/india-foreign-policies-nepal-pakistan-sri-lanka-afghanistan-bangladesh-china-reversal-radical-iaslam/). While China regularly pulls India’s legs at will, India is unable to retaliate. Till now Indian Govt has not been able to renounce ‘One China’ policy that Nehru had committed sheepishly in 1959.

The second diplomatic woe for India laid in its blind support to the Islamic nations right since Nehru’s time. All successive govts have lent their blind trust towards Palestinians most of whom are either radical, terrorists or their supporters/sympathisers (read “Any Innocent Palestinian in gaza? Leaving Exceptions, None”, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/any-innocent-palestinian-in-gaza/). Despite knowing the Ghost, India cannot BUT support them. Similar was the Congress approach towards Pakistan which exported jihadi terrorism to India whereas India kept extending the status of ‘Most favoured nation’. It was only after Modi govt was stabbed on its back thru’ their terror acts that the Govt made a policy, ‘Terror and Talks cannot go together’. Pakistan received a bloody nose by Indian action against terrorists in Balakot. New India also isolated Pakistan as a Terror Sponsoring nation at all major international platforms. It did work. Although political opponents of Modi Govt keep blaming him for failing in its policy on international affairs, that is not true. Today’s India stands tall in foreign affairs. In fact, PM Modi is the only one to have been conferred with highest civilian award of honour 20 times by various nations in the world. It reflects his prestige in the international arena. Today’s India can tread its own path independent of pressure blocks.

Summary

Opposition Political Parties of any nation are the front-runners in highlighting the failures and inadequacies in the governance by the ruling parties. In a democracy, it is the main job of the opposition. However, in India, the main opposition parties that have named itself as I.N.D.I.A (often calling themselves as INDIA) are busy in yelling and crying on trivial issues. In fact, most citizens consider them as Thugs and Traitors (read “देश केगद्दार“, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/chors-scamsters-traitors-of-india/). while the actual fronts on which Modi-led NDA govt are failing or lagging behind, remain in the background. Although Modi Govt has done a lot in their two tenures at the Centre, they have apparently also failed to gather pace they ought to have gained. It is a sort of failure for such a dynamic Govt that lacks a Department to introspect own performance as well as listen to the constructive criticisms of the opposition. It is unfortunate that political opponents of this govt remains busy, pre-occupied in petty politics, unable to show a full-size mirror to the Govt.
